Most plumbing happens out of sight

Under the sink, behind the ceiling, down the drain line, up on the roof vent. These photographs from our Google Business Profile show the places a plumber actually works.

Questions

Plumbing questions from Malibu homes

What is the first thing to do when a pipe bursts?

Close the main water valve, then open a faucet at the lowest point of the house to drain the pipes. Keep people away from wet outlets and the electrical panel, move belongings out of the way of the water and take photographs. Then call. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas company or 911 first.

Why do hose bibs and outdoor valves corrode so quickly near the coast?

Salt air settles on exposed metal, and brass and steel fittings outdoors corrode from the outside in. A corroded hose bib can leak inside the wall behind it, where you do not see it. Replacing a weeping one, often with a frost-proof model, is a small job compared with water inside a wall.

Why is the water pressure so different in a hillside house?

Long supply runs and a big change in elevation between the main and the fixtures change the pressure from one house to the next. Pressure that is too high wears out fittings and appliances. A pressure regulator at the main is a common part to check when pipes knock or fixtures leak.

My home is on a septic system. Can you help with a backed-up drain?

We work on the building's drain and sewer pipes, including the pipe that runs from the house to the tank. Pumping a septic tank and repairing a septic system are a different trade and not something we offer. If everything backs up at once, the tank may be full, and that should be checked first.

Does a new water heater have to be strapped for earthquakes?

Yes. California requires water heaters to be braced so they do not tip or shift in an earthquake, and a replacement installation includes that bracing. It goes with the other safety parts: a relief valve with a discharge pipe, and a shutoff valve on the cold water supply.

Which areas do you serve?

We are based in Malibu, and work in Topanga, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica. Each one is on the map above, and the work covers homes and businesses. If your address is near the edge of that list, call and ask.
